ZHANG SU LI's life came to a dramatic turning point when she stood face to face with an earthworm on the workbench of her biology lab at the Burgess Hill School for Girls in Sussex, England. (She is terrified of earthworms). After running out of the biology exam in hysterics, she had to accept the fact that her childhood dream of becoming a hugely successful veterinary surgeon had just been crushed by a helpless invertebrate of 5 inches.

Edward Dahlberg once said, “When one realises that his life is worthless he either commits suicide or travels.”

So...

While travelling she stumbled into the world of advertising. Her career as a copywriter began in Ogilvy & Mather and continued at Saatchi & Saatchi, Lowe & Partners, BBDO, Naga DDB, Leo Burnett, Grey Interactive, Arc Worldwide, Publicis Worldwide, Arachnid Interactive, Chimera Brand Design Consultancy and Ogilvy One. Her advertising awards include the Golden Kancil for the "Best of the best in Malaysian advertising", Cannes Film Festival, New York Film Festival, London International Advertising Awards, and Singapore Creative Circle.

Su Li's first book, A Backpack And A Bit Of Luck, was published in 2007 by Marshall Cavendish. It reached the Top Ten travel section in Borders Kuala Lumpur, and was shortlisted for Travel Narrative of the month in Borders Singapore. She has three short travel stories in the anthology, Sini Sana, MPH Publishing, 2011.

Su Li can take on any task in the communication business, as long as it doesn't involve earthworms.

Current Project
Our World

The time will come
when, with elation you will greet yourself
arriving at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit. Eat.
You will love again
the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread.
Give back your heart to itself,
to the stranger who has loved you all your life,
whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
